Genealogy Societies — The Backbone of Family History
When we use the term genealogy societies, we actually use it in a very broad sense to include the many clubs, groups, associations, foundations, and other organizations that are dedicated to family and local history. While the Internet has grown in popularity and has become a valuable tool for all family historians, we recognize the critical need that local organizations continue to play in serving the unique interests of certain groups.
It is unfortunate that many enthusiastic newcomers fail to recognize the importance of membership and participation in genealogy societies. Despite all the records, documents, and photographs now posted online — there are far more unique and irreplaceable gems tucked away in small archives throughout the world. Part of our goal is to help bring visibility to all genealogy societies so that their mission can extend for the benefit of future generations.
