Description of Organization:
The Albuquerque Genealogical Society is a non-profit organization, founded in 1972, with three main goals: to promote genealogy; to provide educational aid to researchers; to support the genealogical collection and services of the Special Collections Library.
The Society offers frequent workshops and classes to beginning genealogical researchers. It maintains several computer user groups and an Irish group. All are free and open to the public.
The Quarterly newsletter is published four times a year (May, August, November, February) and is mailed to members. A Beginner's Handbook is available for $3.00 which helps beginners get started and introduces the library and its contents.
In cooperation with other local genealogy organizations, the Society subsidizes the Special Collections Branch (genealogy and local history) of the Rio Grande Valley Library System in its acquisitions. Each year the Society purchases books, microfilms, and microfiche for patron use. We hope this web site will get you started in doing your family history research online. If you're not a member, join our Society and come to visit with us at our monthly meeting and/or receive our Quarterly newsletter. If you're a beginner at genealogical research, stop by the Special Collections Library in Albuquerque and let one of the Volunteers help you get started.
Volunteers from the society are available every Thursday afternoon and most Saturdays at the Special Collections Library for helping anyone get started in discovering their family history, as well as giving research assistance to those with a specific problem or question. There is no charge for this service.
Remember, the research you do today will benefit all the future generations of your family. This research will be part of your legacy.
